Los Calderones

Los Calderones make a strong case for clearing your evening. The Bay Area Cuban Afro-Latin Funk group folds Cuban reggaeton, timba and traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms into a percussion-heavy sound led by trombonist, arranger and rapper Obrayan Calderon. The music draws from reparto and Cubatón, but is not confined to one lane, making this a lively pick for anyone who likes Latin music with plenty of rhythmic movement. A beginner dance lesson starts at 5:30pm, giving newcomers a chance to learn some moves before the band plays from 6 to 7:30pm, and no partner is required. Settle in at Crepe Myrtle Garden for a set from a group relatively new to the Bay Area scene, but led by a musician with deep roots in Cuban orchestras and local collaborations.
