Time Out says

San Francisco's oldest theater, the Roxie opened a century before it became a community-run nonprofit in 2009. World premières of cutting-edge documentaries, classic film noirs and '60s horror flicks are only a taste of the impressive range of films staged at this 238-seat gem, which lays claim to the title of the "second-oldest continual run cinema in the world." Next door, the 49-seat Little Roxie has a great projection set-up, a terrific sound system and a program of stuff too weird even for its edgy parent to show.

What’s on

SF Queer Film Fest

SF Queer Film Festival returns with a lineup focused on bold, independent queer storytelling and filmmakers pushing beyond familiar narratives. The festival highlights films that explore identity, community and the many ways people define themselves, with a focus on voices that often sit outside the mainstream. Spread across multiple screenings, the event offers a chance to discover emerging filmmakers in an intimate theater setting where conversations around the work are part of the experience. For regular moviegoers, it’s a welcome alternative to larger festival circuits, with a more personal focus on independent cinema and fresh perspectives. Whether you’re settling in for a feature, exploring a short film program or looking to discover new voices, SF Queer Film Festival is a thoughtful showcase of the stories shaping queer cinema now.
