Castro Art Walk

Kevin Bean’s “In Memoriam” is a good reason to make the Castro Art Walk part of your Friday plans, particularly if you prefer seeing local work in a social setting rather than treating a gallery visit like an assignment. The Academy is continuing its exhibit of Bean’s work during the monthly art walk, opening the main level to the public from 5 to 8pm. There is no admission charge, which makes it easy to drop in, spend some time with the work and keep moving through the neighborhood afterward. The memorial framing gives the exhibition a more personal weight than a typical rotating show, while the art walk format puts it in conversation with the rest of the Castro’s creative community. On September 4, it is a low-commitment way to see what is on the walls, meet people around the neighborhood and start the evening somewhere other than a bar.
