Calling it a market doesn’t quite do it justice. The Saint-Ouen flea market is more like a small universe packed with people and objects in seemingly endless supply. Spread across seven hectares, it’s made up of twelve covered markets and five shopping streets, each with its own distinct vibe and identity.
The largest—and arguably the most photogenic and eclectic—is the Marché Dauphine. It’s a great place to start if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. To find it, look for the giant orange flying saucer-shaped structure (the Maison Futuro) under the main glass roof—it’s unmissable.
We also love wandering through the tightly packed lanes of Marché Vernaison, perhaps the most authentic corner of the whole market. And don’t miss the Passage, lined with overflowing vintage bookshops that smell of paper and history.
The market is open from Friday to Monday and until 6 PM on weekends—plan to spend the whole day if you can. There’s a lot to explore, and the charm is in getting a little lost.
