Time Out says

Capella gained widespread attention when its Bangkok property was named the world’s best hotel in 2024. Earlier this year, the group opened the first urban hotel of its sister brand Patina in Osaka. Located just a minute's walk from the city’s most treasured landmark – Osaka Castle – Patina feels like an entirely different proposition. Where Capella leans into contemporary luxury, Patina embraces a more understated, quiet luxury.

Patina Osaka is designed around the concept of wellness. Its 221 elegantly appointed rooms and suites – some offering unobstructed views of Osaka Castle – feature natural materials such as wood, stone and washi paper to create a calming, grounding atmosphere. Beyond the typical hotel amenities of a fitness centre and indoor pool, the entire fourth floor is dedicated to Patina Wellness, a sanctuary in the heart of the city offering health-tech treatments including hyperbaric oxygen and hydrogen therapy, cryotherapy, a far-infrared sauna and full-body LED therapy.

Art, design and music are also central to the hotel’s holistic approach, with local and international creatives contributing to some of its signature experiences. Osaka-born graphic artist Verdy has been tapped to design a range of exclusive merchandise, while American sound designer Devon Turnbull (Ojas) created the hotel’s Listening Room, a luxurious reimagining of Japan’s listening bar culture.

Rounding out Patina Osaka’s offerings is the hotel’s main restaurant, P72, whose menu is informed by Japan’s traditional calendar of 72 micro-seasons, showcasing the best local and seasonal produce.

New Year’s Eve celebration at Patina Osaka

Celebrate New Year’s Eve on the 20th floor of Patina Osaka, where the Sonata Bar & Lounge looks out at a grand view of Osaka Castle. This is easily one of the city’s most scenic spots to count down to 2026. On this special night, you’ll enjoy free-flow drinks including champagne, beer, wine, whisky, classic cocktails and soft drinks. Meanwhile, warm dishes will be served at your table, accompanied by a buffet of canapés and desserts. The night’s entertainment features an eclectic mix of live performances and DJ sets. The New Orleans-inspired Big Mouth Brass Band will get the crowd moving with jazz fused with hip hop, R&B and reggae. Osaka-based singer-songwriter Masahiro Sengoku brings soulful R&B and rich vocals. Playme, a multi-talented collective from Osaka’s Minami district, will deliver a high-energy jam session with hip hop tracks and dance laced with hints of jazz influence. The standard plan costs ¥30,000 per person, while the Speaker Room plan with front-row seats by the speaker wall is ¥40,000. Both options require advance reservations and pre-payment by December 24. There is also standing admission on the day for ¥15,000, which includes drinks and the buffet.
