“Rashid Johnson: Anxious Men”

You could say that anxiety begins in the shower in this series of Expressionistic portrait heads of men depicted as frenzied scribbles incised into layers of black soap melted onto white bathroom tiles. As usual in Johnson’s work, these images metaphorically rely the experience and mindset of African-American males as they negotiate the hazards of white privilege and racism.
