Happy in the Poorhouse

Writer-director Derek Ahonen’s exuberant tale of a Coney Island martial-arts fighter has the same profusion of vulgarity, violence and overabundant wit as his previous foray with the Amoralists, The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side. The cast (working very broad and very blue) will again make you spasm with laughter and disbelief. Finally, a synthesis we didn’t know we needed: restoration comedy meets 20th-century potboiler meets Jersey Shore.—Helen Shaw
