Since 1999, the Drilling Company has taken jazz and the Beat poets of the 1950s as its inspiration for presenting new work and fresh interpretations of the classics. The troupe is one of the leading producers of free outdoor summer Shakespeare and mounts several play readings each year. More recently, the Drilling Company took over the venue formerly known as the 79th Street Theatre Lab. The 55-seat black box (up a couple flights of stairs) is where you can see both rentals and in-house work.
