MSG x Jhal x Hana: Welcome to the Neighborhood

Since October of 2023, My Sweet Grandma (MSG), a food initiative and pop-up series, and Jhal NYC, a Bangladeshi street food collective, have collaborated on a communal meal. It's called Welcome to the Neighborhood, an informative dinner that explores their respective Bengali and Fujanese cuisines, culture, and stories. Now the two are back with another upcoming dinner, this time in Greenpoint.

On September 27, the two will host Welcome to the Neighborhood: Cash Rules Everything Around Me, a dinner that explores how Bengali and Fujianese cuisines evolved through immigrant neighborhoods. The dinner will be held at Hana Makgeolli, New York's first and only traditional Korean rice wine brewery. The evening will begin with a welcome drink, courtesy of Hana Makgeolli, either the Honey Makgeolli or the non-alcoholic Hongcho Sparkler. A sneak preview of the five-course, family-style meal journeys through taro fuchka with two sauces, shiitake-stem XO and plum-tamarind, fried spring rolls with chicken keema and Bangladeshi-style Singapore mai fun with shiitake, Chinese celery and chives. As a parting gift, guests will leave with a limited-edition zine featuring photography from artist Mischelle Moy, printed especially for the evening.
