Ron Weasley is coming back to Hogwarts.
Rupert Grint, who played Harry Potter’s lovable best friend in all eight of the blockbuster Harry Potter films, will reprise the role of Ron Weasley on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child beginning February 2, 2027.
“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” Grint said in a statement. “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting.”

Grint will join the Broadway production in what is shaping up to be a particularly nostalgic reunion for fans of the original Potter movies. The actor will play the adult version of Ron, who is now a husband and father and back in the Wizarding World alongside Harry and Hermione.
Cursed Child picks up 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with Harry, Ron and Hermione's children preparing to attend Hogwarts. The play centers on Harry’s son Albus and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius, whose friendship sets off a chain of magical trouble that threatens to rewrite the past.
Grint’s return comes as Broadway’s Cursed Child has already welcomed another major piece of Potter movie history: Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the original films, is currently reprising his role as an adult Draco on Broadway through January 3, 2027. Grint is scheduled to remain with the show through May 30.
Cursed Child originally opened in London in 2016 before making its Broadway debut in 2018 as a two-night epic. The production has since undergone some changes, including a move to a one-part format when it reopened on Broadway in 2021 after COVID closures.
