If your summer vacation budget looks more “Metro-North” than “Mediterranean,” there’s apparently a very good waterfront escape hiding practically in New York City’s backyard.

Delamar Greenwich Harbor in Greenwich, Connecticut, has been named one of the best waterfront hotels in the country in USA Today’s 2026 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, landing at No. 9 on the newly released list. The winners were nominated by a panel of hotel and travel experts before being put to a public vote. And unlike most of the other hotels on the list—which require a flight, a considerably longer road trip or, in the case of Michigan’s Grand Hotel, an actual ferry—this one is roughly 45 minutes from Manhattan by train.

Set directly on Greenwich Harbor along Long Island Sound, Delamar Greenwich Harbor is an 82-room boutique hotel full of coastal New England energy; so good you might even forget you were at Grand Central less than an hour ago. The waterfront setting is, naturally, a major part of the appeal and many rooms have perks like private balconies, fireplaces and Illy espresso machines. The hotel is also home to a French restaurant, l’escale, and an on-site spa, if staring at boats while eating French food somehow hasn’t lowered your blood pressure sufficiently.

Delamar was the only New York-area property to crack USA Today’s top 10, but Connecticut actually scored twice: Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, in Madison came in at No. 4. The overall winner was Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod, a century-old resort with a quarter-mile private beach, 25 landscaped acres and five restaurants.

Still, Delamar has one enormous advantage for New Yorkers: proximity. Greenwich is an easy Metro-North ride from Grand Central, making the hotel entirely plausible for a quick overnight escape—or even a weekend when you decide, at the last possible second, that the city has become too hot, too loud and far too lacking in waterfront terraces.

No airport security, no rental car and no precious PTO required. Sometimes the best vacation is simply the one that can get you home before Monday morning.
