On Thursday, September 25, chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality workers gathered in Las Vegas for the announcement of North America’s 50 Best Restaurants. A first for the 50 Best brand, the inaugural listing considered restaurants from across the continent, including the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. And for the first time out of the gate, a New York restaurant nabbed the top honor.
The number one spot for North America’s 50 Best Restaurants went to the fine Korean restaurant, Atomix. The Nomad area restaurant, led by couple JP and Ellia Park, was recognized for its “well-paced 12-course tasting menu of Korean-based plates, featuring world-class flavour and texture combinations.” The publication went on to note that the restaurant’s combination of food, drink and design set to “forge a new narrative for Korean cuisine across the globe.” This only adds to a series of accolades for Atomix as the restaurant is currently ranked number 12 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, the highest North American restaurant on the list.

But that’s not all. New York dominated the listing with 13 restaurants in total, including Atomix, topping the list. Number nine and ten went to top French restaurants of the scene: Eric Ripert’s Le Bernardin and Le Veau d’Or, the recently revived restaurant by Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson. Williamsburg's critically acclaimed wine bar The Four Horsemen ranked at number 15 and Jody Williams and Rita Sodi’s simplistic yet impossibly hard to get into Italian restaurant, Via Carota, ranked number 18. Chef Atsushi “ATS” Kono’s Japanese yakitori offerings at Kono took the 23rd spot, followed by Fredrik Berselius’s Nordic cuisine at Aska who came in at 24.
Saga, who is now led by Charlie Mitchell, took number 33 and Jungsik, the first Korean restaurant in the U.S. to receive the three stars from the Michelin Guide, came in at 35. Northern Mexican cuisine from Fidel Caballero’s Corima came in at 36, while César Ramirez eponymously named restaurant, César, grabbed number 38. Andrew Carmellini’s ever popular Café Carmellini came in at 39 and Penny, which topped our best new restaurants list of 2024, took the last spot for New York, coming in at number 40.
