If you’ve ever wished for a workout that’s equal parts Nordic chic and New York grit, good news: Copenhagen’s buzzy NRTHRN Strong has arrived in Flatiron, and it’ll have you “skiing” your way to stronger abs—without a snowflake in sight.

The Copenhagen-born fitness studio, formerly known as Nordic Strong, has opened its first permanent U.S. location at 35 West 21st Street after a sold-out summer pop-up in the Hamptons. Founder Nicoline Roth’s claim to fame? Patented machines that mimic the fluid motion of cross-country skiing, turning one of Scandinavia’s most punishing outdoor sports into a sleek, indoor, full-body workout.

Each 50-minute session mixes cardio and strength work in what Roth calls “a high-intensity, low-impact flow.” The Flatiron flagship runs three types of classes: Signature Strong (a HIIT-style blend of resistance and intervals), Sculpt (think Pilates with Nordic attitude) and Cardio (for people who like their endorphins with a side of exhaustion).

“The reception we received in the Hamptons this summer was incredible,” says Roth. “People were immediately drawn to the flow, power and results of the NRTHRN Strong modality.”

The 3,000-square-foot space leans heavily into Scandinavian minimalism—light woods, clean lines and calm lighting that almost tricks you into forgetting you’re about to sweat buckets. Each machine is fitted with an interactive tablet that tracks your performance stats, which means there’s no hiding from your own data.

NRTHRN Strong is now open, with early memberships and class packs available. And while you won’t find any après-ski hot toddies on-site, you’ll probably feel like you earned one.
