Midtown is preparing for its annual transformation into a place where even the buildings have elaborate holiday outfits.
Saks Fifth Avenue’s holiday light show officially returns on Monday, November 23, bringing synchronized lights and music back to the department store’s flagship façade. The free spectacle will debut alongside its holiday windows at 611 Fifth Avenue, between East 49th and East 50th Streets, giving you two excellent reasons to brave the neighborhood’s seasonal sidewalk crowds.

This year’s festivities fall under Saks’ “Main Character Energy” campaign, which follows a group of friends on a holiday shopping adventure through the store. A department store encouraging you to treat yourself is groundbreaking (not!), but the outdoor entertainment won’t require a luxury shopping budget since you can watch from the sidewalk without spending a cent.
The flagship’s six central windows will feature a whimsical, animated holiday journey through New York City. Additional gallery windows will draw on a quintessential city shopping excursion, mixing fashion with scenes of festive discoveries and seasonal memories. Saks hasn’t yet revealed the light show’s specific design or musical lineup, so some opening-night suspense remains. One practical detail to keep in mind before planning your visit: exact 2026 showtimes haven’t been announced and neither has a confirmed closing date.
The return continues the show’s comeback after its 2024 cancellation and 2025 revival. Over the years, the building has worn everything from an illuminated castle to a glittering zodiac display, turning this stretch of Fifth Avenue into a holiday sightseeing destination in its own right.
Inside, Saks’ Holiday Market adds a life-size Santa, dancing penguins and an assortment of decorations and gifts sourced from around the world. (There’s an exclusive Saks snow globe, too.) New this year, the retailer’s Epicure program will offer gourmet treats in keepsake tins celebrating recognizable New York City icons.
With Rockefeller Center just across Fifth Avenue, the show is an easy addition to a Midtown holiday outing. Expect plenty of company, keep your sidewalk photo sessions considerate and remember: the best-priced thing at Saks this season is happening outside.
