Montreal is sending one of its most sought-after late-night snacks south of the border this weekend, giving New Yorkers the chance to try it without booking a flight—or staying out until 3am.

Double’s Late Night will take over Ray’s on the Lower East Side on Saturday, September 12, marking the Montreal bar’s first U.S. pop-up. Starting at 4pm, the team will serve its signature Double’s Double Smashburger alongside ice-cold Saintwoods Martinis to wash it all down.

The timing lands squarely in one of the city’s busiest weekends, with New York Fashion Week underway and the U.S. Open women’s final taking place that afternoon. Ray’s will stream the match, so tennis fans can watch the action while simultaneously tackling two patties. (Frankly, that sounds more civilized than paying stadium prices for lunch.)

Self-described dive bar Double’s is set in a semi-basement on Montreal’s Park Avenue in the city’s Mile End neighborhood, with a long bar, pool table, graffiti-covered storefront and TVs tuned to everything from Canadiens games to European soccer. The drinks lean toward bottled beer and unfussy classic cocktails, while the kitchen turns out burgers, onion rings, fish and chips, pizza by the slice and whatever else Smiles feels like adding to the menu. But it's the smashburger that has become the main attraction, earning a loyal following for keeping things refreshingly, deliciously simple.

Saturday’s event is the first half of a city-to-city bar exchange. Double’s is heading to New York for Fashion Week, and Ray’s will later travel north for its own Montreal appearance. The Ray’s x Double’s pop-up begins at 4pm on Saturday, September 12, at Ray’s, located at 177 Chrystie Street.
