October’s usual floral palette features lots of mums and the occasional sunflower on its last legs. CJ Hendry has something considerably more exuberant in mind—and she’s giving everyone a flower to take home.

The New York-based artist is bringing her wildly popular Flower Market to Greenpoint for three days, filling a Brooklyn address with thousands of colorful blooms. Following its recent run at Rockefeller Center, the experience opens at 279 Calyer Street on Saturday, October 17, and continues through Monday, October 19. Hours are 10 am to 6pm each day, giving you a full weekend (and more) to get there. Admission is free and every guest receives one complimentary flower. (If your decorating ambitions extend beyond a single stem, additional flowers cost $5 each.)

Hendry’s Flower Market has become a draw for its plush blooms, turning the familiar ritual of picking out flowers into an immersive art experience. The recent Rockefeller Center edition featured thousands of soft floral creations, and visitors could take home a free stem.

“New York, we’re doing it again!” Hendry says in the announcement. “There’s something so wonderful about seeing people come together over something as simple as a flower. I love how much happiness these little things can bring and I think we could all use a bit more of that. Brooklyn, get ready. We have a lot of flowers!”

Born in Brisbane and now based in New York, Hendry is known for hyper-realistic drawings and immersive exhibitions that give everyday objects an outsized presence. Her projects have included an Olympic-sized pool in the Mojave Desert, but this time, the invitation involves considerably less travel and a much more portable souvenir.

Put 279 Calyer Street in your map, arrive between 10am and 6pm and leave a little room in your tote. Your farmers market kale can share.
