New York’s sidewalks have hosted rats, rogue couches and more trash bags than anyone could count. But this week, the city is getting something genuinely new: an absolutely enormous ball of hair rolling through Manhattan.

On Wednesday, August 12, hair-care brand K18 will unleash what it’s calling “The Tumblehair,” a larger-than-life rolling hairball that will make its way through several NYC neighborhoods before ending its journey in the Meatpacking District. And, yes, it is exactly as strange as it sounds.

The giant fuzzy creation is made to represent the equivalent of 161 billion strands of hair, a figure K18 says corresponds to the number of hairs New Yorkers could retain using its new FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum. (Yes, this may be a very elaborate advertisement, but it's certainly a more entertaining one than another subway poster.)

The Tumblehair is scheduled to roll through Midtown, the West Village, Chinatown and the Seaport before arriving at Gansevoort Plaza outside Sephora Meatpacking on August 12. There, the giant hairball will settle down long enough for New Yorkers to get an up-close look—and even touch it, should that be something you have always dreamed of doing.

The spectacle is timed to the launch of K18’s new $120 FutureIQ serum, which the company says is designed to address premature hair aging, including shedding, graying and scalp aging. According to K18, a 12-week clinical study found that users had fuller-looking hair, with up to 19,000 more hairs, while 70% showed fewer grays. The brand says all participants showed reduced hair fall and improved scalp barrier during the study.

Once The Tumblehair reaches the Meatpacking District, K18 will also open a temporary Hair Longevity Lab where visitors can get complimentary scalp analyses, talk with the brand’s education team and see product demonstrations. There will also be a claw machine stocked with K18 prizes, plus customized scalp gua sha tools with on-site engraving for guests who purchase the new serum.

Whether any of that convinces you to rethink your hair’s biological age is between you and your scalp. But a gigantic hairball barreling through Manhattan? That seems worth craning your neck for.
