Veruca Salt + Charly Bliss

Chicago outfit Veruca Salt, whose name references the unforgettably petulant Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character of the same name, had a batch of mid-'90s hits behind the insistent Hole-esque snarl-and-shred of guitarist-singers Nina Gordon and Louise Post. Opener Charly Bliss combine pop sensibility and distorted instrumentals into a medley they dub "bubblegrunge."
