Seasoned Philharmonic fans may get a sense of déjà vu when Kurt Masur takes the podium to lead Sofia Gubaildina's achingly beautiful Two Paths for two violas. Both the conductor and the soloists, Cynthia Phelps and Rebecca Young, premiered the work 12 years ago. Liszt's tone poem Les Préludes and Brahms's famously hard-fought Symphony No. 1 complete the emotionally charged evening.
