Distinguished Spanish conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos conducts Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, which tells the story of lovesick young musician's opium-induced journey, inspired by the composer's first encounter with Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson—his future wife. Preceding the piece is Lalo's Symphonie espagnole, which is peppered with hints of flamenco and features rising-star violinist Augustin Hadelich.
