In the nine-member-strong Shrines, King Khan forgoes the minimalism of his other group (the fantastic duo King Khan & BBQ Show) to present a spectacle featuring prominent horns, a groovy rhythm section and pom-pom dancers. The nexus remains Khan himself, who appears as a mock preacher in a sleazy white suit, a simultaneous tribute to and send-up of sweaty soul stars. Also on the bill is Atlanta's Gentleman Jesse and His Men, creators of infectious garage pop on their debut self-titled LP.
