Deep Rivers: In Memoriam Gunther Schuller (1925-2015)

The name Gunther Schuller may not be well remembered today, but five decades ago he was forging a revolutionary (if short lived) hybrid of jazz and classical he called "third stream." The Mimesis Ensemble pays their respects to the composer/conductor, who died this year, with a concert of his own compositions, arrangements of spirituals and the New York premiere of a more recent piece by  Mohammed Fairouz.
