Now approaching its three-decade mark and still going strong, Long Island's longest-running classical-music festival returns with a fusion of classical and modern works. The Brooklyn Rider quartet opens the festival with a free Kings County–themed concert (Thu 26) featuring Irish and Persian traditional works, Komitas Vartabed's Armenian Folk Songs, the group's original composition Seven Steps and Colin Jacobsen's Brooklesca. On Sat 28, festival founder Marya Martin and friends present a summer benefit concert with works by Haydn, Schubert, Martinu and Dvorak. On Sun 29, Martin and colleagues present a program entitled "Shadow and Light," featuring contrasting selections by Haydn, Martinu, Giya Kancheli and Brahms.
