NYC is the city that never sleeps, so it's fair to assume that some of our museums stay open late! If you work a day job, it's often impossible to visit museums because they usually close by 6pm on most days. But some of them have late hours on certain days of the week — and that includes major institutions such as the Met and MoMA.

Friday and Saturday, 10am–9pm
We’re not going to lie: Late hours at MoMA are crowded. Is it still worth going then to see the greatest works of modern and contemporary art anywhere? Absolutely.
Friday, 10:30am–8:30pm; First Fridays with free admission for New Yorkers are held from 5:30-8:30pm (reserve online in advance).
Evening hours at ICP are a great way to catch up with the best in photography from classic to cutting-edge.
Thursday, 10:30am–8pm
Exhibits at the Museum of Sex (MoSex) seem even more provocative during late hours and are actually best seen at night, anyway.
Sunday–Thursday, the museum is open until 10pm; on Friday and Saturday, it closes at midnight.
Late hours at the Museum of the Moving Image give you more time to check out screenings, interactive exhibits and more.

The history of Gotham is both long and epic. Luckily, late hours at The New York Historical give you more time to take it all in.
Friday 11am–8pm (admission is pay-as-you-wish from 5–8 pm on Fridays)
Talks, readings and exhibition tours are all part of the mix during the Whitney’s late hours.
Friday 10:30am–10pm
The Brooklyn Museum’s late hours are especially helpful for borough residents wanting to get out and get in some culture on the weekends during its First Saturday festivities, which include music and food along with the art.
