Biographer and translator Susan Bernofsky teams up with writer Rivka Galchen (Atmospheric Disturbances) to introduce stories from and about Walser’s enigmatic "microscripts," writings made late in life (he spent many of his later years in mental institutions), jotted on scraps of paper in text so small that it's almost impossible to decipher. New Directions will publish a series of the writings on Tue 25. Today's event, which takes place at the excellent new arts space 177 Livingston, will also include a trivia quiz with prizes, larger-than-life secret manuscript pictures and a German penmanship lesson.
