AMT Theater

The two theaters here—a 99-seater downstairs and a wee 47-seater above—are rare, rather attractive proscenium spaces in reach of midtown. Once upon a time, Primary Stages called this venue home, and a certain shabbiness only adds to the appeal, which may be why up-and-comers like the Babel Theater Company and David Levine staged work here early in their careers. The Michael Chekhov Theatre Company, which focuses on revivals of modern classics, is now the space's principal resident.
