What is it: An Asian-inspired cafe serving a picture-perfect breakfast and specialty coffee
Why we love it: In its second, bigger home, deeper still into the heart of shimmering Bandra, Mokai has blossomed into a beige-and-gold feast for the senses. From the Japanese hanko-stamp logo at the entrance to a Great Wave-inspired chandelier suspended below the skylight, and washroom doors styled like washing machines, there's plenty to admire in a space built for lingering. Part European, part Asian, the menu plays both sides well: cute sandos, Asian-style eggs, an extensive matcha list, and desserts that split the difference.
What to order: The tornado-style omelette, served on toast with fragrant chilli oil. The ‘not so Turkish’ eggs are also a popular pick. Pair either with a cold matcha on a hot day.
Time Out tip: Visit at 10am: no lines and the breakfast menu's still running. Stay on and you can catch the matcha bar at noon and try the red-light therapy masks with your drink.
