August in Miami feels like a sweaty hug: warm, sticky, and oddly comforting. Fewer crowds and snowbirds lend a sense of calm to the city. There’s more room to sprawl at Miami’s best beaches, more free concerts by local artists, and serious “staycation” deals at Michelin-rated hotels.

Consider it our reward for tolerating daily downpours, and the humidity. Oh, the humidity! Thankfully, August saves the best summer events for last. Miami Spice returns with wallet-friendly specials at over 300 local restaurants, and Miami Spa Months continue the trend with savings on all sorts of wellness treatments, from Turkish foam massage to CBD facials. It’s a grand summer finale this August in Miami, complete with pool parties and art exhibitions wrapped in air-conditioned splendor.

Take your pick from our August event guide and experience Miami summer like a local.

Things to do in Miami in August

  • Things to do
  • Normandy Isle
Normandy Isles’ charming bistro has dialed up the deals this summer. On Mondays, $35 gets you steak frites, a glass of wine, and a crêpe for dessert. Wednesdays are reserved for seafood; a pot of steamed mussels, crispy bread slices, and a glass of white wine are yours for $35. Wine aficionados should visit on Thursdays, when the entire wine menu is 50% off, no exceptions. Our suggested pairing? A show at La Poubelle, Silverlake's hidden cabaret theater, located nearby.

Check out a Michelin-starred darling in the Grove, savor Peruvian ceviche in Kendall, or see what’s newly opened in Doral. Or why not do it all? • Exhibitions
  • Wynwood
The Balloon Museum's globe-trotting "Pop Air" exhibition has landed at Mana Wynwood, turning one of the neighborhood's most cavernous spaces into an entire immersive environment dedicated to inflatable art. The show has already toured Rome, Paris, New York, and LA, and the Wynwood footprint gives these installations more room than they've had anywhere. You're meant to wander, touch, and interact—through a geometric inflatable labyrinth, a suspended sphere installation that responds to movement, a room where balloons swirl in controlled tornadoes, and a massive LED-lit butterfly you can power yourself by pedaling. The standout is Hyperstudio's luminous projection-filled ecosystem of swings and shooting stars. Budget more time than you think you'll need; you'll want to stop and appreciate the scale of everything after filling your camera roll with selfies.
