The beachfront resort recently reopened in December 2025 after a $100-million tune-up, and it’s better than ever. For regulars like me, the most noticeable difference is the lobby, where views of the blue Atlantic waters are now unobstructed through stretching, ceiling-height windows. The coastal-modern lobby living room flaunts ethereal chandeliers and plush carpeting with wavy details which mimic the sensation of wading in the calm waters outside. The iconic Rum Bar, which used to feel like a direct transport to Havana, has had a modern glow-up and is now a seamless part of the lobby. It’s the place to have a rum tasting or sip on the cheekily named “My Neighbor’s Mango” cocktail rimmed with Tajin.
Yet with all the upgrades, what solidified the property as a coveted resort for decades is still there. Families love the resort for the kid-friendly pool and open green spaces where they can kick around a ball, and couples fall for its idyllic, romantic setting along the ocean fringed by palms. Natural beauty is the island’s strong point, and the resort is a refined respite to soak it all in.

Renovated guest rooms are now washed in quiet sandy hues, blonde woods and lavish, textured carpeting, that made me feel like I’d been wrapped in a soothing cocoon. I stayed in a double queen room with a spectacular view of the ocean, where I could watch the sun rise over the water from my bed. I never heard a sound during my two-night stay, and left rested and refreshed. The only bummer: my room’s balcony barely offers a standing room, so if you want a true oceanfront experience, reserve a room with a proper balcony. My room gave me access to The Club Lounge, which is worth the extra money for its all-day culinary presentations. Think: Taittinger Champagne, a Bloody Mary Bar until mid-afternoon, breakfast, lunch and more. The ninth-floor Club boasts the most beautiful views from the hotel, showcasing Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.

The resort offers six dining options, and the food is good enough that you won’t need to leave the property. With the reopening came new dining standouts, including my personal favorite, Luma. The modern Italian restaurant is helmed by a chef from Puglia, who reigns over the open kitchen. Many of the ingredients are imported from Italy, and the handmade pastas are the way to go. I’m still dreaming of the agnolotti stuffed with sweet corn and Parmigiano-Reggiano, and crowned with shaved black truffles.
Boasting gentle sea breezes and ocean views, the open-air Paralía restaurant is the epitome of what a vacation meal should feel like. The menu recalls the Greek isles and Türkiye’s Aegean coast with a heavy focus on seafood and heartier standout dishes like a short-rib baklava. Longtime favorite Dune Beach Bar is the place to kick off your sandals and dig your toes in the sand, and not feel an ounce of guilt as you devour their beloved smash burger.
What is the pool and spa like at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami?
Two pools cater to the lifestyles of those with kids, and those without. The family pool is marked by a splash pad with a giant bucket dumping out water to the joyful squeals of children, and the large zero-entry pool is a parent’s dream. At the separate adults-only pool, couples and friend groups float in the water with cocktails in hand, or read quietly under umbrellas.
The newly renovated spa has shed its former Tommy Bahama-esque aesthetic and now echoes the hotel’s serene hues with plenty of reasons to spend all day there. I arrived early to alternate between the cold plunge, jacuzzi and sauna. And while it’s a splurge, the 110-minute “The Sounds of Spa” treatment is one of the best treatments I’ve experienced at a spa. It started with a grounding exercise in the outdoor sensory garden, and then the therapist read my body like a tarot deck, using body work and a CBD-focused massage to relax all my tension. At the end, she moved Tibetan singing bowls around my body, the vibrations lulling me in and out of blissful sleep.

The hotel’s property showcases the beauty of the barrier island, with guests swimming in the calm water until sunset or taking off on paddle boards. It’s also worth visiting the nearby Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to climb the Cape Florida Lighthouse, or to snap photos at sunset. If you need a rush from the quiet, Downtown Miami is just 15 minutes away.
