Hiking fans, cyclists, runners and outdoor enthusiasts – we’ve got good news. Thanks to $5.9 million in funding, Jells Park – a lakeside park in Wheelers Hill – has just welcomed two new shared-use trails, complete with drinking fountains, seating and solar lighting.

Stretching for 2.5 kilometres, the first path (the Lake Trail) loops around the Jells Park café and play area with beautiful views of the lake. The five-kilometre Bushland Trail winds through the lush bush – ideal for a longer run if you’re keen to really stretch the legs.

Developed through consultation with the community, the trails have been designed with accessibility and community needs in mind. Investment in the area has also gone towards improving public spaces, with the sports fields upgraded, two jetties at Jells Park replaced and the Oaks Playground given a glow-up.

"We’re rolling out projects across Jells Park to ensure it remains a cherished place for our community – where families connect, nature is celebrated and memories are made," explained member for Glen Waverley, John Mullahy.

Improvements to outdoor public spaces in Victoria aren’t stopping there – according to the Victorian government, these new upgrades are part of a $24.76 million investment to improve sites managed by Parks Victoria (with a focus on removing and replacing unsafe infrastructure).

The paths are open now, so you can get outside and enjoy them this weekend.
