Time Out says

Three comedians – Rhys Nicholson, Kyran Wheatley and Alex Dyson – had a dream to open a new theatre in Melbourne purpose-built for comedy. This dream, unfortunately, started to come to fruition in 2020. So Nicholson, Wheatley and Dyson decided to open a new theatre purpose-built for both comedy and social distancing; and they called it Comedy Republic.

The theatre opened during the 2020 lockdowns with a series of livestreamed comedy events. Comedy Republic now hosts plenty of in-person gigs featuring some of the nation's funniest comedians. The dedicated comedy space can fit 150 guests (keep in mind capacity will be reduced during restrictions) and also features a bar. BOB Bar to be precise, which first debuted as a pop-up bar during a previous MICF.

Keep in mind that Comedy Republic is on the second floor and has no lift. The team are working on making it into an accessible venue; in the meantime, Comedy Republic offers a number of livestreamed gigs.

Replay Festival

Try as you might, it is awfully hard to see every single comedian at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF). The good news is you've been given a second swing at the best of the fest, with Comedy Republic's Replay Festival. For the entire month of July, Replay Festival is bringing some of the top MICF shows for a second round on stage. On the line-up are more than 40 comedians, including breakout acts, award nominees and critically acclaimed favourites who sold our their original runs. We're talking the likes of Scout Boxall, Brett Blake, Alex Ward, Gillian Cosgriff, Lloyd Langford, Nick White, Robyn Reynolds, Takashi Wagasuki and Greg Larsen, to name a few. Plus, US comedian Liza Treygor will also make an appearance, fresh off the debut of her Netflix special. Whether you couldn't get a ticket the first time around, or just want to keep the laughs going, Replay Festival is a guaranteed good time. Oh, and it also offers vital support to Melbourne's arts community in an otherwise quiet time of the year. What's not to love? Find out more and buy tickets here. Keen to keep laughing?
