Time Out says

This vintage entertainment palace is the headquarters of Broadway in Hollywood, which specializes in big-budget musicals. It’s pretty much the only theater in town where you can catch find touring productions of the latest Tony-winning shows straight from Broadway. While it’s not the spot for intimate, cutting-edge theater, there’s always a crowd-pleasing play onstage, from The Lion King to newer hits like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Located off of Hollywood and Vine, the ornate Art Deco venue dates back to 1930; it even hosted the Oscars from 1950 to 1960. The venue seats over 2,700, made up of floor-level and balcony seats—don’t forget to look up at the stunning ceiling. When the Pantages is occupied by a long-running show such as Wicked or Hamilton, the company’s shorter runs are booked into other spaces, such as the Dolby Theatre.

What’s on

The Who’s Tommy

You’ve heard “Pinball Wizard” approximately a million times. But now see it all play out onstage when The Who’s Tommy comes to the Pantages. A dazzling new production of Pete Townshend’s groundbreaking 1969 rock opera will be performed in L.A. October 27 to November 15, introducing a whole new generation to the deaf, blind and mute boy who nonetheless “sure plays a mean pinball.” Expect powerhouse vocals, explosive choreography and enough rock ’n’ roll bombast to shake the chandeliers. Sadly, the baked beans choreo is strictly in the movie adaptation.
