The 2006 Irish independent musical film 'Once' may have only been a cult hit, but playwright Enda Walsh's stage adaptation has caused a big splash on Broadway, where it was the big winner at the 2012 Tony awards, taking away eight gongs including best musical. Retaining the original film's score, 'Once' is a gentle, folksy love story about the blossoming romance between an Irish busker and a Czech pianist. 'Once' promises to bring tears and laughter to London audiences when it opens in the West End in 2013.

Phoenix had an auspicious start in 1930 when it opened with a cast including Gertrude Lawrence and a young Laurence Olivier in Noël Coward's 'Private Lives'. It went on to stage a mix of highbrow dramas and musicals before committing to the latter genre when Willy Russell's 'Blood Brothers' took up residency in 1991 - and it hasn't shifted since.

How to get to the Phoenix Theatre

To reach the Phoenix Theatre take the Northern line of Piccadilly line to Leicester Square tube station. Head north on Charing Cross Road. The theatre will be 320m on the right hand side.
