Drama from US artist and writer John Ransom Phillips explores the troubled life of Mary Lincoln, wife to Abraham Lincoln, whose later years were marked by controversy and poor mental health. Keala Settle stars as Mary, who in the play is locked into a tense relationship with Hal Fowler’s Matthew Brady, America’s first celebrity photographer, who she’s banking on to help imporve her public image. Bronagh Lagan directs a remounting of the show, which may or may not have been coincidentally revived at the same time as the UK debut of Oh, Mary!, the hit Broadway comedy that’s also about Mary.
