I hate the phrase ‘hidden gem’, but if there was ever a reason to use it, it would be to describe Thingy Cafe. Sat opposite a busy road and a railway line frequented by freight trains, this gorgeous little Hackney Wick oasis comprises a sweet garden, spacious cafe, co-working space and even a podcasting studio. It’s got a community vibe and inside the building filled with mismatched furniture, disco balls and Pride flags, you’ll find a dependable café serving a ‘normal’ menu (you’ll find no matcha strawberry french toast here) – bacon buns, seasonal soups and hearty sandwiches – all well made with high-quality ingredients. For coffee, it’s the classics done well.
