Food and art are a natural match. It’s all a question of taste, isn’t it? At Canvas & Cream, the owners have embraced all things creative: in addition to a gallery and dining room, there’s a studio space for artists, a therapy room for alternative practitioners and a rolling programme of craftsy workshops.
The Dining Room kitchen turns out a fairly standard brunch menu at weekends with a Modern European/North African emphasis taking hold at lunch and dinner. There is also a Sunday roast at £15.
This is a particularly attractive place. Vintage lighting, farmhouse tables and a open shelves of crockery give the place a homely, been-here-forever feel. Factor in funky art, mouth-watering displays of baked goods both sweet and savoury on the counter, and all those activities going on, and you’ll find plenty of reasons to visit.
