If this month’s new openings are anything to go by, London remains in the pocket of Big Pizza. This August also sees the return of one of east London’s most legendary pubs in a brand new (somewhat classier guise), as well as a beefy new brewery for Walthamstow.

1. The big ticket Spanish spot

Legado, Shoreditch

Founder of Mayfair’s turbo tapas joint Sabor, Nieves Barragán Mohacho, is set to open her second restaurant in league with the all-conquering JKS Restaurants. Legado – which translates to ‘Legacy’ – will serve up lesser-known regional Spanish dishes, and will also be home to La Taberna, an all-day bar and terrace where you can pick up pintxos, cava and sherry.

1C Montacute Yards, 185-186 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6HU

Opening date: August 28

2. The return of an indie sleaze icon

The Macbeth, Hoxton

This pub will be extremely familiar to anyone who got drunk in London about 15 years ago. Formerly the site of grotty gigs, indie discos and nu-rave raves, the Macbeth is reopening as a Portuguese gastropub with Jamie Allan - formerly of Four Legs, who opened Finsbury Park’s The Plimsoll and Tollington’s – in charge alongside his good pal Patrick Nolan.

70 Hoxton Street, Hoxton, N1 6LP

Opening date: August 13

3. Pizza!

Bad Boy Pizzeria, Bethnal Green

Another day, another London pizza parlour opens. After years of shifting their award-winning slices at Bad Boy Pizza Society pop-ups at Seven Dials Market, Vinegar Yard and the Railway Tavern in Tulse HIll, they have finally found their forever home in Bethnal Green. You’ll be able to score everything from single slices to full pies, from NY-style to Sicilian squares, as well as sides such as chicken vodka parms, and deep fried burrata in spicy marinara.  The drinks menu will feature BBPS’s brand new house lager as well as wines, local beers and shots.

419 Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, E2 0AN

Opening date: August 8

4. The big brewery

40ft Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow

Say a jaunty little ‘cheers!’ to the Blackhorse Beer Mile’s new arrival; Dalston’s 40ft Brewery is opening up a brand new mega space. With 100 seats inside, and another 100 outside, the brewery will also have a dog park, food pop-ups and a regular roster of comedy nights, DJ sets and daytime events for kids. 40ft Blackhorse Road opens August 8 and a crowdfunder is running until the day before, which is offering a double money drinks credit to order to help support the new venue.

Unit 10, Lockwood Way, Walthamstow, E17 5RB

Opening date: August 8

5. More pizza!

Berberè, Marylebone

Alright, this is getting silly. There’s yet more new pizza in London, this time courtesy of Berberè, sourdough specialists who already have locations in Clapham, Kentish Town and on Tottenham Court Road, as well as a whole host of spots in Italy (which is how you know they’re good). Founded in Bologna in 2010, they’ve been voted ‘world’s 6th best artisan pizzeria’ by 50 Top Pizza. Booze comes from wine guys Passione Vino, and beer pros Signature Brew.

50 James Street, Marylebone, W1U 1HB

Opening date: August 4

Clove Club

6. The Michelin-star adjacent bar

The Clove Club, Shoreditch

Double Michelin star champ The Clove Club is getting into the holiday spirit by (re)launching its bar for the summer. You used to be able to swing by the front of the restaurant for snacky bits and drinks, so we’re happy to see the return of this more affordable way to enjoy Isaac McHale’s immaculate food, even if it is only for a few weeks. Expect warm crab dumplings, fish pakoras, chicken kebabs, Scottish tacos (pigs blood and buckwheat pancakes with pork jowl) and parmesan fries with Manjimup truffle.

Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, Shoreditch, EC1V 9LT

Opening date: Open now

Dante

7. Something for the weekend

Dante, Islington

A little bit French, a little bit Italian, Dante is a new Friday-to-Sunday pop-up kitchen from chef pals Louis Korovilas and Taylor Sessegnon-Shakespeare, who met while working at London’s longest running Michelin star restaurant, Pied A Terre in Fitzrovia. The menu includes broadbean orzotto with glazed chicken wing, aubergine scarpece with clam bagna cauda and crispy palourde clams, beef carpaccio with oyster mayonnaise and baby artichokes and whole sucking pig belly for two.

Islington Arts Club, 235 Upper Street, N1 1RU

Opening date: August 1

8. Even more pizza!

Dough Hands x Toklas Bakery, Temple

Dough Hands makes the finest pizza in London and now you don’t need to head to London Fields or Nunhead to try it. Toklas Bakery is hosting a two night pop-up collab with Dough Hands founder Hannah Drye on August 5 and 6, from 6pm until they sell out. There’ll be white pie with Calabrian chilli and hot honey on offer, as well as pepperoni and pickled peppers, with wedge Caesar as well as tomato salad with tahini and salted ricotta on the side. Toklas will be providing passionfruit and coconut ice cream sandwiches for pudding. On August 7 Toklas Bakery will also see a pop-up visit from Stoke Newington’s Sonora Taquería, with tacos, tortillas and tequila.
