Forewarning for anyone who relies on the Piccadilly line! You’ll have to find an alternative route to and from work for most of this week.

As the dark blue tube line continues preparing for its shiny new trains, it’ll be shut for three full days from Tuesday to Thursday. There’ll be no services between Cockfosters and Uxbridge, which is the majority of the line (and the entire central London section). You’ll still be able to go between Heathrow and Acton Town, though.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Piccadilly line closures happening this week.

When is the Piccadilly line closed this week?

The dark blue London Underground line will be closed between Cockfosters and Uxbridge from Tuesday August 25 until Thursday August 27

Why is it closed?

TfL is closing the Piccadilly line throughout this month to allow for necessary work preparing it for the new fleet of trains, which will have walk-through carriages and air conditioning, better digital displays, improved step-free access. The rail tracks will be upgraded, new CCTV will be installed at platforms and modifications will be made to signalling.

When will the Piccadilly line closures end?

The new fleet is expected to enter service between December this year and June 2027. So, TfL says that closures will continue intermittently until mid-2027. At the moment, there are confirmed closure dates all the way up to the end of November.
