Three London fish and chips shops are officially the best in the UK

Don’t rate London’s fish and chips scene? We have some chippies that’ll change your mind. The National Fish & Chip Awards has just revealed its shortlist of the UK’s top takeaways for 2027, and three of them are in London.

The National Fish & Chip Awards is run by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF). The top 40 chippies were chosen by industry specialists, who judge establishments on a range of criteria including food quality, hygiene, sustainability, customer service and industry knowledge. The awards are now in their 39th year.

The three London chippies in the top 40 are Chipping Wharf Fish & Chips in Bow, Fish! Kitchen in Southwark and Skipjacks in Harrow. They’ll all now go on to compete for Takeaway of the Year 2027.

Three shortlisted chippies is pretty good for London. Last year only two fish and chips shops repped the capital in the top 40, though one made the top 20. None reached the final.

The 40-strong nationwide longlist will first be whittled down to 20, then 10. The final will take place next February at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.

Commenting on the longlist, NFFF president Andrew Crook said: ‘As we celebrate the 39th year of the National Fish & Chip Awards, it’s brilliant to see talent, passion, excellent professionalism and dedication to their craft on display.

‘We are proud to celebrate the owners, teams and young talent whose passion and hard work keep this much-loved tradition thriving.’

Takeaway of the Year is arguably the National Fish & Chip Awards’ most prestigious gong, though other titles include Restaurant of the Year, Young Fish Frier of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Field to Frier, Mobile Operator of the Year, and Environment and Sustainable Business.
