Canary Wharf isn’t all skyscrapers and suits – the business district likes to have fun, too. Every winter, the area goes big on Christmas just like everywhere else in the city with a Santa’s grotto, carol services, winter lights and, for the last 20 years, a sparkling 1,200 square metre ice rink with a bar and DJs.

Sadly though, one of those festive traditions is coming to an end. Ice Rink Canary Wharf, which is one of the city’s longest-running seasonal rinks, will not return this year. In a statement on its website, the business said: ‘After many wonderful seasons at Canary Wharf, we have made the decision to take a break for the 2026 winter season and the rink will not be operating this year.

‘We would like to sincerely thank all of our customers, partners, sponsors and supporters who have visited and supported the rink over the years. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of so many of your festive memories.’

It may not be goodbye for good, though. Ice Rink Canary Wharf said that it hopes to return in the future. Until then, there are plenty of other rinks across London to choose from this festive season. On the other side of the river in Greenwich, there’s the Queen’s House Ice Rink and further west you’ve got the beautiful rink at Somerset House or Glide at Battersea Power Station.

More sad news: One of east London’s most popular family Halloween events has been cancelled for 2026.

Plus: After 5 years, Monopoly Lifesized is closing.
