From the classic fry-up to the millennial favourite avocado on toast, we love a good breakfast at Time Out.

You can score sublime morning meals across the city, but there’s one that’s recently taken our fancy and shot straight to the top of the very best brekkies in London list

The new number one breakfast in London comes courtesy of… The Angel in Highgate. The Angel, which relaunched in 2024 under new management, is now run by the same team as the nearby Red Lion & Sun gastropub, but there’s been a pub on the same site for around 400 years. Though we doubt they were serving vegan sausage baps in 1687.

Our glowing review of their breakfast was written by Ella Doyle, who commented: ‘It’s rare to find a breakfast in London that doesn’t secretly make you think “I could’ve made this at home”. But trust me, none of you are getting anywhere close to this kind of finesse on a hangover.’

She added: ‘The Angel breakfast menu has got it all, from expertly crafted brunch classics – full English, avo toast and the likes – to a wonderfully thick Croque Madame, Thai sausage bap with lime mayo and crispy prawn chilli oil, and a whopping great kipper glistening with parsley butter.’

The Angel opens at 8am and breakfasts run, quite brilliantly, until 4pm every day – apart from on Sundays, when they make way for roasts at 11.45am. The breakfast also includes mushrooms on toasted sourdough and Greek yoghurt with blueberries, banana and granola.

Our list of the best breakfasts in London also includes the chic Italian offering at Martino’s in Chelsea, shakshuka saffron buns at Cafe Jikoni in Stratford, the bacon bap at St John Neal’s Yard Wine Bar, and the Irish-inspired weekend breakfast at Cafe Cecilia in Hackney.

The best breakfasts in London.
