The founder and frontman of this Malian collective, Idris Traore, goes by the nickname Djembe Thunder – which gives you some idea of the untamed power of their percussion-based sound, which draws particularly on Manding music from the village of Kangaba, and has seen them tour with Baaba Maal and Cat Stevens.
