If Regina Spektor had grown up on a farm in Vermont, she might have sounded like Anais Mitchell; pretty piano or guitar-led ballads with an occasionally athletic vocal leap. But, crucially, without the quirk of the émigré Spektor and more redolent of American folk music's history.
