Hong Kong’s traditional culture scene is about to witness a remarkable spectacle. To celebrate the 155th anniversary of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), TWGHs will hold the Man Mo Parade cum Autumn Sacrificial Rites 2025 on October 12. As one of the largest deity parades in the city, this event will feature a majestic procession of nearly 500 participants, reviving the grandeur of traditional ceremonial pageantry. It promises to be one of the year’s most unmissable cultural highlights.

A long-standing tradition of worship
The Man and Mo Emperors represent literary and martial prosperity respectively. Since 1957, TWGHs has held the annual autumn sacrificial rites to honour these emperors, praying for good harvests and well-being. This nearly 70-year-old tradition is officially listed in Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory.
Reviving the grand tradition of Man Mo Parade
This rare parade boasts nearly 500 participants, featuring a range of Chinese ceremonial elements, alongside vibrant performances such as Piu Sik (Floating Colours) Parade, 100-foot Fire Dragon, and lion dance. The procession starts at Sheung Wan Cultural Square and winds through Morrison Street, Queen’s Road Central, Procession Street, and Hollywood Road, concluding at the historic Man Mo Temple.

Autumn Sacrificial Rites
Following the parade, the sacred rites – also part of Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage – will be conducted inside Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan. The Chief Celebrant and TWGHs Board members will recite blessings and prayers in traditional ceremonial robes, offering attendees a rare glimpse into the solemn beauty of ancient sacrificial customs.

Cultural performances and booths
The assembly hall of Tung Wah Hospital will be transformed into a cultural experience zone, highlights include Chinese-style hip hop, qilin dance, and face-changing acts. Traditional folk crafts such as sugar painting, Chinese knots, lacquer fans, and flour figurines will be showcased, offering a hands-on journey into the charm of heritage artistry.
