Finnish design house Marimekko is instantly recognisable the world over. As a peddler of fashion, home decor, and products sporting vibrant and abstract prints with the goal of spreading joy and positivity, this lifestyle brand exudes timelessness and summery happiness. If Marimekko’s lively ‘flower power’ energy is right up your alley, mark your calendars for October 16 – the Finnish brand is going to lift the curtains on a new flagship store in Causeway Bay! A highly anticipated launch, this opening not only signifies a fresh start for Marimekko in Hong Kong but also showcases the company’s commitment to creating an engaging in-person retail experience that resonates with shoppers.
Marimekko first entered the Hong Kong market in 2012 with a shop on Leighton Road in Causeway Bay. In a way, the upcoming flagship represents a homecoming as the new store remains on the same street, but a stunning transformation, a revamped design, and expanded offerings are set to provide a completely novel Marimekko experience for Hong Kong fans. It’s going to be impossible to miss too – Marimekko’s ubiquitous ‘Unikko’ print is going to be the focal point of the store’s facade, spotlighting the brand’s printmaking heritage. Inside the shop, you’ll feel yourself transported to Marimekko’s textile printing factory in Helsinki, as the striking interiors draw inspiration from the Finnish workshop.
Marimekko enthusiasts can look forward to a thoughtfully selected range of products, including apparel, accessories, home goods, and even printed fabrics, all adorned with signature prints. Bestsellers featuring the ‘Unikko’ pattern are bound to be popular, but we’re hopeful that prints like the bold ‘Kivet’ and the minimal ‘Tiiliskivi’ will shine as well.
Currently, the brand operates six retail locations in Hong Kong (and there’s an outlet shop at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung as well) so the new Leighton Road flagship is in good company. According to a post on Marimekko’s Instagram, eligible purchases will come with a free Marimekko tote bag as a gift – more than enough reason to go shopping!
