If you’ve spent any time in Hong Kong at all, you’ll definitely have laid eyes on the iconic Chinese junk boat that is the Dukling. Cutting through the waters of Victoria Harbour with its vibrant red sails, this traditional junk from around 1955 is an indelible part of the city’s visual identity, and an unmissable symbol of Hong Kong history that stands proudly against our modern skyline.

Now, for the first time ever, the Dukling transforms into a floating museum to celebrate its 70th anniversary, honouring the boat’s rich narrative and inviting visitors aboard to experience the nostalgia and memories of bygone decades. Imagined as a conceptual exhibition, guests can step back in time through displays of historical images, artefacts, and fishing tools, and engage in activities to relive the Dukling’s treasured legacy.

This iconic boat with red sails has enjoyed a long and illustrious history, first as a traditional three-masted fishing boat, and later as a sightseeing vessel after its ownership changed hands. Disaster struck in 2014 when the aging ship sank during a typhoon, but that tragic turn of events did not spell the end for this little boat that could. The Dukling was painstakingly salvaged and restored, and a year later, the resilient Chinese junk was sailing once more as a living testament to Hong Kong’s maritime history.

Hop aboard the Dukling from now until September 30 to soak up a significant piece of our city’s past – Hong Kong residents holding a Hong Kong ID card can even enjoy a special $70 fare for the 4.30pm sailing. Check out the official website for the latest information, the most updated sailing schedule, and to sign up for this limited-time experience.
