Hong Kong Ballet becomes first resident company at new WestK Performing Arts Centre

Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is finally getting a key to its own home as they’ve just signed on as the first resident company at the new WestK Performing Arts Centre (WestK PAC), scheduled to open in summer 2027.

The move marks the city’s first long-term residency arrangement between a local professional dance company and a major arts venue. Under an initial three-year tenancy, with the option to roll over for another three, the company is securing over 1,000 square metres of space within the complex, including three dance and rehearsal studios, an on-site physiotherapy room, shower rooms and lockers, and a private office.

The new centre will serve as HKB’s primary stage going forward, hosting full performance seasons and increasing their run of shows each year. They will make heavy use of the 1,450-seat Grand Theatre, as well as the Dancehouse facility with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that allow passersby to see dancers at work or even catch sneak peeks of rehearsals. 

Their inaugural season kicks off between September and October 2027 with the world premiere of ‘Bruce Lee: Hong Kong Legend’. The new production draws on the martial artist’s life, philosophy, and global cultural impact, serving as a headline act for WestK PAC’s debut lineup.

While two or three resident companies will eventually share the building, the remaining rehearsal spaces and facilities are set to be rented out to other local dance groups and performing arts organisations when not in use.
