The Hong Kong Palace Museum is throwing an exclusive after-hours party to mark the final stretch of its landmark exhibition, Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums.
Having already drawn over 550,000 visitors since it first opened, this grand showcase of roughly 250 ancient Egyptian artefacts is wrapping up on August 31. To give the show the proper send-off it deserves, the museum is throwing one last after-dark shindig – A Pharaoh’s Rendezvous – on August 19 from 6.30pm to 10pm.
Aimed strictly at the grown-ups (entry is 18 and over), the idea is to experience ancient Egypt under a different light – specifically, against the backdrop of the Victoria Harbour skyline at night. Guests will get exclusive after-hours access to the main exhibition in Gallery 9, along with selected thematic displays in Galleries 3 and 4, guided by on-site docents to unpack the stories behind the objects.
There is plenty more on the agenda besides peering at ancient coffins in the dark. The night features a panel discussion on ancient Egyptian civilisation featuring HKPM chief curator Dr Daisy Wang, Egyptologist Amjad Refai, and DeWonder Travel co-founder Rubio Chan. Entertainment will come in the form of live folk dance, curated music sets, and a DJ performance from Beat Friday. Visitors can also sample authentic Egyptian snacks, try drinks infused with Chinese and Egyptian flavours, take in bespoke ancient scents, and snap photos alongside pharaohs and deities at themed photo spots.
Tickets for A Pharaoh’s Rendezvous cost $450 per person, which includes entry to Galleries 3, 4, and 9, access to all evening activities, and a complimentary blind box featuring a themed plush bag charm inspired by ancient Egyptian artefacts. HKPM Friends and Museum Patrons get a 10-percent discount on tickets ($405), while anyone buying two or more tickets gets 20 percent off ($360). Tickets are now available on HKPM’s official website.
If you can’t make the late-night party, the museum is also relaunching its popular blind box ticket packages starting from $260, which pair one full access ticket or special exhibition regular ticket (Gallery 1-7 & 9) with a collectable plush bag charm shaped like pharaohs, mummies, or canopic jars.
To accommodate the end-of-run rush, the museum is also tweaking its opening hours for the entire month of August. Doors will stay open daily, including Tuesdays, operating from 10am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, and extending until 8pm Friday to Sunday.
