Safe to say, this is not your average night at the theatre

A mega European theatrical show featuring dozens of four-legged stars is galloping into town! Cavalluna, Europe’s widely acclaimed equestrian theatrical spectacle, is officially making its Asian debut right here in Hong Kong. Masterminded by Emmy-nominated director, composer, and author Klaus Hillebrecht, the production has already clocked up over nine million spectators across more than 30 cities in Europe. Titled ‘Gate to the Otherworld’, the show will be landing in Kai Tak Arena for a limited run of eight performances between September 8 and 13.
While you might expect a few tricks, Cavalluna goes well beyond simple riding drills. There’ll be 54 magnificent horses spanning eight distinct breeds, including jet-black Friesians from the Netherlands, elegant Spanish Pura Raza Española, Lusitanos from Portugal, Arabians from the Middle East, and delightfully charming Mini Shetland Ponies that are guaranteed to put smiles on faces. Bringing these equine performers across continents is no small feat either, requiring dedicated Boeing 747 freighter flights complete with climate-controlled cargo compartments to deliver the entire cast safely to Hong Kong.
Storywise, the plot follows Meerin, a young sorceress who possesses the power to bring her drawings to life. After being exiled and subsequently captured by a ruthless warlock named Röndrup and his niece, Meerin has to battle dark forces and her own self-doubt to reclaim her magic.
The narrative is brought to life through elaborate, handcrafted costumes, an international dance troupe, and a dramatic cinematic score. Audiences can expect some serious equestrian stunt work too. Highlights include the legendary Hungarian Post, where a single rider stands balanced across two galloping horses while guiding several others alongside them, as well as trick riding, acrobatics, and liberty dressage where horses perform unattached to reins or tack, guided purely by body language.
Tickets to the show are now available via HK Ticketing; standard seating starts at $395 and goes up to $1,995 for first row seats ($395, $695, $895, $1,095, $1,595, and $1,995). For groups, VIP tables seating six guests are also up for grabs ($27,220).
