There must be something about watching clothes spin in a self-service laundry shop that makes you want to get on with doing something else, because how else do you explain the fact that we have a bar hidden behind a laundromat and what used to be one of the best cafés in Sai Ying Pun (RIP Clean) also coexisting with a laundry shop? Here’s another dual-concept to add to the list, as Chill Hill opens as a frozen yoghurt store tucked inside a coin-operated laundromat.
Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Shena Wong, who also founded Café Twenty One from Eight, is the brains behind this new chill spot. Instead of the usual soft-serve machines that squeeze out a mixture of water, emulsifiers, and artificial air, Chill Hill uses a high-density, homemade brick of yoghurt instead that’s mixed with fresh fruits. This base features 100-percent pure Australian yoghurt and French cream, with natural dairy fats that give it a creamy texture without artificial oils or trans fat.
As a clean-label brand, Chill Hill also doesn’t mess with white sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, choosing to use natural trehalose instead which reduces glycemic impact – if you’re health-conscious with a sweet tooth, this froyo is made for you.
Choose from one of their curated cups like Very Berries (acai, mixed berries, mango, honey, and vanilla) or Medi Delight (tahini, pistachio, dates, and honey) from $50, or build your own cup from $40. With blends, toppings, and sauces galore such as Lotus Biscoff, genmai rice puffs, nuts, and fresh fruits to choose from, there’ll be plenty of possibilities for you to play around with. During Chill Hill’s soft opening, four curated creations will be available, but keep an eye out for more in the future.
